Many physicians rely on physician assistants, registered nurses and advanced registered nurse practitioners to conduct minimally invasive procedures in the office and medical spa setting. Before a physician delegates any procedures to members of staff it is important that he or she is aware of state laws regarding supervision and scope of practice.
ASPS has put together a variety of materials that physicians may find useful. The materials include: 1) contact information for state medical, nursing, physician assistant, and cosmetology boards; 2) several examples of APRN protocols and an overview of the various injectables; and 3) a list of legal and risk management considerations.
Physicians should note that many of the materials provided are examples specific to certain states. Physicians are urged to contact their state's medical board before delegating duties to ensure proper practice.
