A 75K Hand-Surgeon Scientist Award is being offered by the Plastic Surgery Educational Foundation (PSEF) and American Foundation for Surgery of the Hand (AFSH).
Purpose: To ensure that young investigators in hand surgery have sufficient protected time to develop a productive career in academic surgery. The award is designed to support young investigators who have demonstrated excellence in research by receiving extramural research funding in 2009 or later under one or more of the K08 or K23 career development awards from the NIH.
Nature of Projects: Research in any area relating to hand surgery with preference on clinical/translational research with an emphasis on clinical care.
Amount: $75,000 United States Dollars per year for up to five years, subject to annual review. Support is intended for salary support and will help supplement income lost due to time spent in research. This award is subject to availability. Only newly funded K08/K23 awardees (in 2009 and beyond) will be considered for funding to begin in 2010.
Eligibility: Applicant must be young faculty member in United States Accredited Plastic Surgery Program and must also be a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. The applicant must demonstrate with written proof at time of application having received a commitment from the NIH.
Applications will be accepted January 1 – December 1, 2009.
