Stephen Mathes Reconstructive SymposiumSymposia: 12.5 CME Credits
Workshop: 7.75 CME Credits
July 10-11, 2009
Named in tribute to one of the esteemed plastic surgeons of our time, the ASPS Stephen Mathes Reconstructive Symposium promises to be one of the most comprehensive programs for plastic surgeons regardless of their area of sub-specialization.
Planned in cooperation with a variety of leading reconstructive societies, this didactic program will include internationally recognized faculty that will assist the attendee on approaches and issues related to reconstructive procedures found in the emergency room and in daily practice. The one-and-a-half day, extensive schedule will set the stage for specific flap dissections, which will immediately follow during the Techniques in Flap Dissection with Cadaver Workshop.
This activity is intended for any surgeon interested in expanding their reconstructive practice, seeking a refresher course or searching for pearls of wisdom from distinguished leaders of this challenging field.

Held in conjunction with UT Southwestern Medical Center's
July 11-12, 2009
The purpose of this course is to provide participants with a better understanding of flap anatomy and harvesting techniques. The course will help improve the participant's technical skills in harvesting and handling commonly used flaps for trauma and post-oncologic reconstruction.
The course objectives will be met by a balanced program of didactic lectures, practical fresh cadaver dissection, interactive discussion and question and answer periods. Closed circuit television and videotapes will be used, and each participant will actively participate in flap dissections with faculty supervision. There will be two participants per cadaver and each faculty will demonstrate flaps from their area of expertise. The 1:3 faculty to participant ratio has been designed to allow ample discussion with the faculty surgeon.
This course is open to plastic surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, general surgery and trauma surgeons, as well as fellows and residents interested in the basic principles of flap anatomy, flap harvesting and applications. This course will focus on the fundamental and advanced aspects of flap surgery with an emphasis on all major traditional flaps as well as free and pedicle perforator flaps. Areas covered will include: head and neck, trunk, breast, abdomen, as well as the upper and lower extremities.
At the end of the Symposium, attendees should be able to:
