Executive Vice President
Michael D. Costelloe, JD, is executive vice president of the ASPS, the world’s largest organization of board-certified plastic surgeons, and The Plastic Surgery Foundation (PSF), ASPS’ affiliated foundation.
In this capacity, Michael plays a leadership role in working with member surgeons, corporate partners, government and international entities, and staff to promote the advancement of quality care to patients by encouraging high standards of training, ethics, physician practice and research in plastic surgery.
He is responsible for all management functions and activities as delegated by the ASPS/PSF Board of Directors.
Since joining ASPS in 2010, Michael has successfully led the effort to expand the Society’s international programs and outreach, while transforming ASPS/PSF into a service business that is member-centric, dynamic and entrepreneurial.
In addition, he has re-energized Plastic Surgery Practice Solutions, Inc. (PSPS), ASPS’ for-profit subsidiary, in order to better partner with and strengthen member surgeons’ practices. He has also transitioned the Plastic Surgery Education Campaign, ASPS’ award-winning national advertising, media and public relations campaign from a search engine marketing platform to multimedia – encompassing online advertising, public service announcements and celebrity spokespersons, all promoting the importance of choosing a board-certified plastic surgeon and ASPS membership.
Prior to joining ASPS, Michael served as senior vice president, International Division, at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) where he was responsible for business development, clinical facility development, program development, legal affairs and government relations matters for UPMC’s international projects.
During most of his 12 years at UPMC, he was stationed in Europe and was instrumental in the development of public and private partnerships in Italy, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Egypt, the Czech Republic, the Middle East and China. Prior to UPMC, Michael worked for an international investment firm as an attorney.
Michael earned a political science degree from the State University of New York and received his Juris Doctorate from The Catholic University of America, Washington, DC. He is a member of the state bars of the District of Columbia and Virginia.
A New York native, Michael has three children and resides in Chicago with his wife and six-year-old daughter. He enjoys playing electric guitar in the genre of late-1960’s blues-rock. A little known fact, Michael lived in rural Virginia for 10 years where he owned a farm, kept horses and raised cattle.
