Director of Publications
Mike Stokes is the director of publications for ASPS, responsible for leading staffs in Chicago and Dallas who produce award-winning publications, including the specialty’s top journal Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (PRS), industry-leading news magazine Plastic Surgery News (PSN) and the Society’s new open-access journal PRS Global Open (PRS GO). During his tenure, Mike and his team have ushered in the digital era with iPad editions of each ASPS publication. He also led the development of the Society’s weekly e-news publication, PSN Connection.
Under Mike’s leadership, PSN most recently won the 2013 EXCEL Silver Award for General Excellence in Newspapers from Association Media & Publishing, marking the eighth consecutive year the publication has garnered national recognition. In the past year, PRS was also recognized with a Gold Award for the Best Peer-Reviewed Journal from the American Society of Healthcare Publication Editors.
Mike has an extensive journalism background and joined ASPS in 2004 from Consumers Digest Communications, where he served as senior editor. He also served in editorial roles at MVP Media Group and Sendai Media Group, where he was involved in the development and successful launch of several newsstand magazines and licensed publications.
He has also taught undergraduate English composition at Harper College and business writing at St. Xavier University and Elgin Community College. Mike earned his MBA from Northern Illinois University and M.A. from DePaul University. He and his wife and three daughters and live in Bartlett, Ill., where he coaches youth soccer, runs 5Ks and plays in a Whiffle Ball league.
