Dr. David Kirn is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who is devoted to advanced techniques in Cosmetic Surgery of the Face, Breast, and Body. In private practice since 1998, he is located in a state of the art facility which includes a full service skin care center.
The practice is centered around personalized patient care and attention to detail. Where possible, Dr. Kirn focuses on minimally invasive procedures. The goal is to deliver quality clinical results while minimizing patient recovery time. Examples of this include a no-drain tummy tuck, armpit incision breast augmentation with gel or saline implants, fat grafting, and a short scar facelift (the MACS lift). In addition, Dr. Kirn offers a full spectrum of non-surgical treatments such as Dysport, Botox, Restylane, Juvederm, Radiesse, and laser.
A detailed consult is conducted prior to all surgeries where the various options are discussed and computer imaging is performed to provide a simulation of the anticipated surgical changes.
Dr. Kirn has focused on cosmetic surgery since day one of his private practice starting in 1998. He has worked to combine scientific innovation and gradual technique refinement of each procedure to maximize results and minimize recovery time and discomfort. Dr. Kirn is known for innovative thinking and holds multiple United States and International Patents for the design of medical equipment. The same thought processes have been applied to many of his core procedures, as detailed below.
Transaxillary Breast Augmentation: This technique allows placement of a breast implant through a small incision located in the patient's armpit. Although the technique has been established for many years, Dr. Kirn has developed special instrumentation to allow a smaller incision size with saline implants and uses the innovative Keller Funnel for placement of gel implants.
The Kirn iTuck(TM) Abdominoplasty: Dr. Kirn's iTuck(TM) procedure is designed to deliver results on par with standard abdominoplasty techniques while minimizing patient discomfort and recovery time. All abdominoplasties, and the iTuck(TM), recontour the abdomen by removal of excess skin, removal of excess fat, and tightening of the muscle wall. The iTuck(TM) includes 3 enhancements in addition to standard techniques. First, drains are not needed due to the use of the Progressive Tension Suture technique as described by Drs. Pollock & Pollock. Secondly, long acting local anesthetic is placed into the muscle layer to minimize discomfort immediately after surgery. Third, an Ivivi SofPulse(R) electromagnetic loop is used after surgery to minimize pain and swelling and accelerate recovery.
MACS Lift Short Scar Facelift: Originally described in Belguim, the MACS lift has become a mainstay of Dr. Kirn's facial rejuvenation options. Unlike some other short-scar facelift operations, this procedure gives structural support at the fascial layer while minimizing incision length and recovery time. Most commonly, fat grafting is combined with the MACS lift to provide restoration of youthful facial volume in addition to contour.
Consultation is completed before all treatments, surgical and non-surgical. For both, it is a time to discuss your goals and identify the available treatment options. Most commonly, consultation results in several options for the patient to choose from. Dr. Kirn and his experienced staff help guide the patient through these choices.
Most surgical consultations last about an hour and include computer imaging to simulate the anticipated changes. Our goal is to provide the patient with all the information they need to make a decision. Follow-up questions and consultations are always welcome as needed. A pre-op visit is usually completed shortly before surgery to provide an additional opportunity to answer any lingering questions.
Consultations for non-surgical procedures such as Dysport, Botox, or dermal filler treatment usually include treatment if the patient wishes to proceed after evaluation and discussion of the options.
Regardless of the nature of the visit, our goal is to make the patient feel comfortable and provide factual information. The consultation is not a "sales pitch" and we strive to avoid any pressure for patients to make a decision immediately.
Nearly all of Dr. Kirn's surgeries are performed at the SCA Lexington Surgery Center located in the St. Joseph Office Park. The Surgery Center is a AAAASF certified outpatient facility serving multiple specialties. The Center has Board Certified Anesthesiologists as well as skilled and experienced staff.
Dr. Kirn has a procedure room in his office for minor procedures which can be completed under local anesthetic only.
Dr. Kirn has surgical privileges at Central Baptist Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital, and St. Joseph East.
