Specialty
At Cotter Plastic Surgery, we have a special interest in performing cosmetic breast surgery such as Breast Augmentation, Breast Tack Up (Mastopexy), and Breast Reduction Surgery as well as Abdominoplasty i.e. "Tummy Tucks".
For many years, Dr. Cotter has provided Breast Reconstructive Surgery for patients with breast cancer and specializes in the tissue expander-to-permanent implant breast reconstructive surgery technique.
Dermatological (Skin) Surgery has been a large part of our practice for many years. Dr. Cotter receives referrals from surrounding physicians and dermatologists to remove and treat many different types of skin cancers and malignancies that require surgical care.
Dr. Cotter utilizes the Open Rhinoplasty technique for nasal re-shaping. He uses the refined techniques of limited volume Liposculpture when performing tumescent liposuction.
The Aesthetic MedSPA is located within the offices of Cotter Plastic Surgery two blocks north of Shelby Baptist Medical Center on Hwy 31 in the comfort and privacy of Alabaster, Alabama. We provide a wide variety of medical grade non-surgical skin treatments as well as carefully selected skin care products to enhance the overall health of your skin. We take special care when providing Botox and Juvederm treatments and we participate in Allergan's "Brilliant Distinctions" Program that can provide for significant savings on subsequent treatments and for products such as Latisse or Vivite.
Private consultations with our board certified, licensed Physician Assistant , Kim Moon PA-C are available for spider vein laser treatments and various depth facial peels. Kim has been with our practice for 14 years and has special training in dermatology from George Washington University.
At Cotter Plastic Surgery, we have always had an interest in helping patients who are just contemplating or have had cosmetic and/or reconstructive procedures in the past and may not be satisfied with their result or consultation. We can provide second opinions or further information as you move forward with your plastic surgery decision.
Consultations
Your consultation begins with a telephone phone call or a stop by our office to gather information or to schedule an appointment. Our Receptionist will direct your call or questions, enter your contact information, and set up a profile to be reviewed by Dr. Cotter. We will help you sort out overlaps in cosmetic and non-cosmetic procedures and set up the right kind of appointment for you.
An-depth consultation may initially be set up with Dr. Cotter, however, for those wishing information only or an easier way to begin the consultation process, an appointment can be set up with our experienced plastic surgery physician assistant, Kim Moon PA-C. Kim is a well trained, licensed physician assistant who has been with Dr. Cotter over 14 years. A full consultation with Dr. Cotter may follow at a separate visit. Either way, our friendly and knowledgeable staff will assist you through the consultation process answering questions and providing information about the procedures and the insurance/payment process as well as post-op care. if yours may be a medically necessary procedure, we will gather the necessary information to prepare a letter of pre-determination for your insurance carrier, if required.
At Cotter Plastic Surgery we strive to make your visit pleasant, comfortable and informative. As you leave the office you will have gained the knowledge and information you need to make an informed decision about your surgery or the procedure(s) you desire.
Facilities
We operate primarily at one of two facilities on the campus of Shelby Baptist Medical Center in the comfort of Alabaster, Alabama just south of Birmingham. Procedures that do not require overnight stays are generally performed at Shelby Ambulatory Surgery at the Physician's Center. Procedures requiring overnight stays are done at Shelby Baptist Medical Center. Post-operative care is arranged through the hospital’s attractive and well appointed Women’s Center or the new South Tower.
The staff at both facilities provide professional, compassionate, care with your privacy as a priority. They feature state-of-the-art modern operating rooms, pre-op and recovery areas. Our anesthesia teams are made up of board certified anesthesiologists and certified, registered, fully credentialed nurse anesthetists. We also have two operating rooms in our office that we use for smaller procedures that can be done under lcoal anesthetics.
