Consumer's Guide to Breast Reduction

Breast Reduction Assessment of Value and Outcomes (BRAVO) Study

Patient Experience 2

After spending my teenage years and early twenties feeling insecure and self-conscious about my appearance due to large breast, I decided to research my options surrounding breast reduction. At the young age of 24, I was experiencing back pain, shoulder pain and great discomfort exercising and sleeping. I could not imagine spending my life "dealing" with these issues, so I scheduled my first appointment with my surgeon.

From the beginning, I was treated with the utmost respect and I felt very comfortable discussing my personal feelings and situations with my surgeon and her support staff. Due to insurance issues, I had to wait a year after I was approved for my surgery. During that year, I never once had reservations about the surgery. My mother and older sister both had the surgery prior to mine so I knew what to expect and was excited to feel the immediate relief that they felt the days following their surgery.

The surgery came and went and the healing process began. The pain was minimal - with the most occurring 4 months following the surgery when the nerves began to regenerate allowing for more feeling. I now have a "new" found security about myself and my appearance. I no longer dread shopping and attending social events - with the constant aggravation of finding clothes that would fit. I am glad that I chose to have this surgery at a young age and would highly recommend it to any woman at any age.
