Breast Reduction

Reduction Mammaplasty

Breast reduction surgery entails the removal of skin and tissue from the breast, followed by reshaping and elevating to create a smaller, more proportionate bust size.

How should I prepare for breast reduction surgery?

Breast reduction surgery may be performed in an accredited outpatient facility, an ambulatory surgical center or a hospital.

Be sure to arrange for someone to drive you to and from surgery and to stay with you for at least the first night following surgery.

Prior to breast reduction surgery, you may be asked to:

  • Have a physical examination, including lab work
  • Obtain breast imaging studies depending on your personal or family history or age
  • Take certain medications or adjust your current medications
  • Stop smoking or vaping*
  • Avoid taking aspirin and certain anti-inflammatory drugs, as they can increase bleeding

*Smoking decreases blood flow, which can impede wound healing and increase the risk of infection.
