Director of Research and Scientific Affairs
Katie Sommers is the Director of Research and Scientific Affairs at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, where for over a decade, she has been responsible for providing management of the registries, clinical studies, research grants, data insights and analytics and researcher education programs. Since joining ASPS in 2011, Katie has been responsible for the implementation of four registries within plastic surgery, including the National Breast Implant Registry, a collaboration between ASPS, the FDA and breast implant manufacturers.
Katie's clinical care and research career began nearly two decades ago at the Mayo Clinic and continued in the Department of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at the University of Chicago, where she served as lead clinical research associate, acting as a liaison between various cooperative groups and oncology clinical research associates, while implementing registry protocols for pediatric cancer patients. She also managed multiple registries, which served as a resource for future outcomes research.
Katie earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from St. Mary's University of Minnesota and a Masters of Public Health in Epidemiology and Public Health Genetics from the University of Michigan School of Public Health. She is a published research author and a member of the American Public Health Association and the Society for Epidemiologic Research.
