There are two main reasons to consider Dr. Reath for your plastic surgery: his personal approach and his professional qualifications.
His Personal Approach Sets Him Apart.
Dr. Reath's motto is "The personal approach to personal change." This is not just a catchphrase. His passion is using his skills and abilities to help his patients best improve the quality of their lives.
During your consultation, Dr. Reath takes the time to really listen to you. Then he explains all of your options, answers your questions and helps you decide if plastic surgery is right for you. Routinely, patients tell us on how nice he is and how pleasantly surprised they are by the amount of time Dr. Reath spends with them one-on-one...especially if they've had consultations with other plastic surgeons. In addition to spending time with patients in the office, Dr. Reath also answers patient emails personally every morning before he starts operating. He even calls his patients the night of their surgery to check on them.
His Plastic Surgery Qualifications Are First-Rate.
Not only is Dr. Reath a Board-certified plastic surgeon, he served as member-at-large of the Board of Directors of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Because of his passion for public education, the ASPS asked Dr. Reath to be Chairman of their Public Education Committee. He is the only plastic surgeon in East Tennessee to serve in a leadership position of the country's foremost authority on plastic surgery.

Awards Based on Real Patient Reviews
Potential plastic surgery patients have always relied on the experiences of others to help them decide which plastic surgeon will take the best care of them. That's nothing new. What has changed is the vast amount information that can be found on the internet about physicians and how well they treat their patients. This advice is particularly helpful to someone considering plastic surgery, and we are grateful that so many of our patients have taken the time to share their experiences online.
Many review sites have started offering awards to help patients easily identify those physicians who consistently get great feedback from the patients they care for. Over the years, Dr. Reath has received many awards and accolades from professors, peers and colleagues (his medical resume is 14 pages long, yikes). However, these new review-based awards are probably the most relevant to a patient looking for the best plastic surgeon.
Dr. Reath was selected for both "The Patient's Choice 5 Year Anniversary Award" and the "Compassionate Doctor Award 5 Year Honoree". This is a big deal because only 1% of the doctors in the United States are awarded either honor by their patients. In addition patient reviews resulted in the "Top Ten Doctor Award" for plastic surgeons in Tennessee.
The only award which Dr. Reath received that we hesitate to mention is the "On-time Doctor Award" (just in case you happen to be the rare patient reading this while looking at the clock in our waiting room). Seriously, we're glad our patients are noticing this. Respecting our patient's time is one of our priorities, which is why we have our on-time pledge.
Dr. Reath is also a favorite of the local Knoxville newspaper and magazine surveys. He is a "Reader's Choice Favorite Plastic Surgeon" by the Knoxville New Sentinel, a "Best Cosmetic Surgeon" in the Metropulse Best of Knoxville and consistently selected a "TOP DOC" in plastic surgery by Cityview Magazine.
To save you the time of reading Dr. Reath's 14-page C.V. that we mentioned earlier, here are some of the important parts.
Dr. Reath received his surgical training at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond and completed plastic surgery training at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Not only is Dr. Reath a Board-certified plastic surgeon, he was member-at-large of the Board of Directors of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. He is the only plastic surgeon in East Tennessee to have served on the board.
In addition, Dr. Reath is
- Past Chairman of the Public Education Committee of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons
- Celebrating 28 years as East Tennessee's plastic surgeon
- Included in America's Top Plastic Surgeons by the Consumer's Research Council of America.
- Past-President of the Tennessee Society of Plastic Surgeons.

A Passion for Public Education
You might be interested to know that the eBooks that Dr. Reath produces as free downloads for his patients have received national acclaim. "A Girlfriends Guide to Breast Augmentation" was mentioned in Entrepreneur Magazine as an example of "great online content with wings". It even won a Magnum Opus Award, joining the ranks of big companies like Disney, Four Seasons, GE and Apple. It has been downloaded over 100,000 times.
The American Society for Plastic Surgeons liked the "Plastic Surgery Planner" eBook so much that they asked Dr. Reath to produce a planner specifically for women having breast reconstruction surgery. With the assistance of his wonderful colleague from Oklahoma City, Anu Bajaj, MD, the Breast Reconstruction Planner is now helping women across the country navigate their options after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

Successful surgery is the result of a successful partnership between you the patient, the surgeon and his staff, those who help you recover, and the center where your surgery is performed.
There are three different settings in which you can have outpatient, elective surgery:
- A hospital
- An ambulatory surgery center
- An operating room in a doctor’s office (office-based operating rooms)
For many years, Dr. Reath has chosen to partner with the Physician’s Surgery Center of Knoxville (PSCK), an ambulatory surgery center which is located in the Center for Advanced Medicine next to Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center.
An ambulatory surgery center gives you the best of both worlds: comfort and safety.
Fully Licensed and accredited surgery centers like the Physician's Surgery Center of Knoxville provide a more relaxed and friendly environment in which to have surgery. They are smaller, a bit more intimate and comfortable, a bit quieter, and – perhaps-- more private than a hospital. And yet, everything you need to have surgery safely is on hand.
(Interestingly, Physician's Surgery Center was one of the very first ambulatory surgery centers in the United States.)
You'll have two Board certified physicians to take care of you during your surgery- Dr. Reath and an anesthesiologist.
Anesthesia is provided and supervised by physicians and nurse anesthetists from Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center. This is something that Dr. Reath feels strongly about; having a Board-certified anesthesiologist present during his cases. It’s an important layer of patient safety to which he is committed. Many patients are surprised to hear that most office-based operating rooms in Knoxville don't have anesthesiologists on site. Whether you are having elective cosmetic surgery or any other surgical procedure, it's a good idea to ask who will be doing your anesthesia.
Our patients love the Physician's Surgery Center.
Dr. Reath has been operating at the Physician's Surgery Center for over 25 years, and it’s been a good partnership. We consistently get positive feedback about PSCK from patients who have had surgery there. In addition to the conveniences of an outpatient surgery center, it’s the staff at PSCK that makes a difference. You can tell immediately that they love what they do. Many of them have been working with Dr. Reath since the first time he started operating there, not something you will see in many places. And, it makes a difference.
It's a great synergy. Not only does the staff at the Physician's Surgery Center work well with Dr. Reath and his staff, they share the same attitude towards taking personal care of his patients. First and foremost is to assure patient safety. But they go above and beyond by being kind, dedicated and truly caring for the patients who come through their doors.
Surgery, even elective cosmetic surgery, is never without some nervousness and anxiety. The folks at the Physician's Surgery Center of Knoxville know this and always do whatever is necessary to make the process as easy as possible for you. So if you are going to have surgery, this is a safe, comfortable, and excellent place to be.
