Meet Dr. Minas Chrysopoulo

Dr Chrysopoulo is board-certified plastic surgeon and microsurgeon, and President of PRMA Plastic Surgery. "Dr C" specializes in state-of-the-art breast reconstruction with a particular focus on microsurgical perforator flap breast reconstruction (like the DIEP flap procedure), nipple-sparing mastectomy, techniques to maximize aesthetic outcomes, and restoring sensation after mastectomy.

Dr C is also a strong advocate for shared decision-making between the healthcare team and patient. Shared decision-making occurs when the health care professional and patient work together to make a treatment decision that is best for the patient. The best decision takes into account evidence-based information about treatment options, the physician's knowledge and experience, and the patient's preferences and values. Multiple studies show this collaborative approach improves patient outcomes and satisfaction.

To empower as many patients as possible, Dr C created the Breast Advocate® App, the World's first shared decision-making app for breast cancer surgery and breast reconstruction. Breast Advocate® is a free app, co-created by breast cancer specialists and patient advocates, that provides anyone with a breast cancer diagnosis, or at risk of developing breast cancer, a much needed voice in their breast cancer surgery decision making.

Cosmetic plastic surgery procedures offered include breast augmentation (implants), mastopexy (breast lift), and body contouring including abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) and liposuction.

Absolutely, it can be done and is usually covered by insurance in our experience. During a mastectomy, nerves providing feeling to the breast are cut causing loss of sensation and numbness to the breast area. Patients undergoing mastectomy must understand they may lose all feeling to the area, regardless of whether they choose to have breast reconstruction or not. Over time, some sensation may return but unfortunately for many patients it is minimal, if any. Mastectomy patients choosing to have DIEP flap reconstruction are candidates for an additional procedure called a "microneurorrhaphy", performed at the same time as their flap breast reconstruction. This repairs the nerves cut by the mastectomy and significantly improves return of feeling to the reconstructed breast. Microneurorrhaphy is performed by joining two nerves using microsurgery (with or without a nerve graft), and therefore requires specialized training. Currently, very few centers offer this additional procedure.
