American Society of Plastic Surgeons Selects New Executive Vice President
University of Pittsburgh Medical Center SVP Awarded Position

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. - The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) is pleased to announce the selection of Michael D. Costelloe as its new Executive Vice President and as the Executive Vice President of The Plastic Surgery Foundation (The PSF), its affiliated foundation. Mr. Costelloe currently serves as Senior Vice President, International Division, of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) where he is responsible for business development, clinical facility development, program development, legal affairs and government relations matters for UPMC's international projects. UPMC is an $8 billion integrated global nonprofit health enterprise with 50,000 employees and 20 hospitals and is closely affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh.

Since 1998, Mr. Costelloe has worked on behalf of UPMC to conceptualize and negotiate strategic alliances with public and private healthcare providers in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Egypt, the Czech Republic and the United Arab Emirates. His work has included creating joint ventures for hospital and cancer center operating entities in Ireland and the U.K., as well as the negotiation of millions of dollars in project financing and operating budgets with Italian government agencies to build and manage a high-specialty hospital in Sicily.

"Michael Costelloe's significant international experience and his focused business development and transactional background will serve ASPS and PSF in good stead as they continue their international outreach and their efforts to develop and expand various programs and initiatives for their membership and the specialty of plastic surgery," said Dr. Michael McGuire, ASPS president. "He is clearly the person to transform ASPS/PSF into a service business - member-centric, efficient, productive, entrepreneurial, and dynamic."

The selection of Mr. Costelloe was the result of an intense and focused international search in which ASPS received and considered hundreds of applications, eventually honing in on Mr. Costelloe as the candidate it concluded was best suited for the challenges facing ASPS, its members and organized medicine.

Mr. Costelloe is a graduate of the College of Arts and Sciences of the State University of New York and received his Juris Doctor degree from the Columbus Law School at the Catholic University of America. He is a member of the state bars of the District of Columbia and Virginia as well as the European Health Management Association.

In accepting the position, Mr. Costelloe stated, "I look forward very much to working with the ASPS Board, its staff and the ASPS membership to begin a transformational process that will realize the Board's vision for ASPS and ensure that ASPS is always at the leading edge of innovation."
