About

Meet Dr. Erika Sato

A Missouri native, Dr. Sato was drawn to the field of plastic surgery when she was diagnosed with Binder’s Syndrome as a child. Binder’s syndrome is a rare congenital malformation resulting in undergrowth of the central face and may include elements of the nose and upper jaw. She underwent rhinoplasty surgery as a teenager utilizing cartilage from her right ear to reconstruct her nose. At just 15 years old she experienced how life changing plastic surgery can be, and knew that she wanted to be a plastic surgeon, so that some day she could impact others lives in a similar manor.

After graduating from the Honors College at the University of Missouri – Columbia with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a Pre-Med emphasis, Dr. Sato went on to finish medical school at the University of Missouri – Columbia School of Medicine. She then completed her general surgery residency at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in the world renowned Texas Medical Center followed by a rigorous fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the same institution.

Dr. Sato is one of eight surgeons at My Houston Surgeons, a multi-specialty practice in Houston, TX. My Houston Surgeons is considered a top aesthetic practice, offering a full range of surgical and non invasive services to the face, neck, breast and body. Dr. Sato leads a team of experienced nurses, medical assistants, a patient care coordinator, and surgical staff in this state of the art facility. Our office, two in-office AAAASF certified operating rooms, and are all encompassed in the same building making your experience from start to finish as streamlined and convenient as possible.

The staff works closely with Dr. Sato to create the best environment for the patient from the consultation to surgery and post surgery care. Dr. Sato caters to the needs of each patient with a concierge type service.

Dr. Sato was invited to be a visiting plastic surgeon in Kuwait City at the prestigious Quttainah Medical Center and had a second part-time aesthetic surgery practice there until the pandemic.

In 2015, Dr. Sato was featured as a main cast member on Bravo’s reality TV show Married to Medicine Houston.

Your Consultation

Your personal consultation with Dr. Sato is in a comfortable private setting. Dr. Sato believes that realistic expectations are key to a successful surgery; therefore excellent communication between the patient and the surgeon is essential. The consultation appointment is equal parts interview and education.

She personally spends 45 minutes to one hour with each patient at a new consultation discussing their specific goals and concerns and answering any questions they might have. Dr. Sato encourages patients to ask questions and will always provide thorough honest answers.

The next step is a detailed physical exam, which allows Dr. Sato to have a better idea of which procedure or procedures are the right choice for that specific patient.

With an innate artistic touch, a natural eye for physical proportions, and strict attention to detail, Dr. Sato incorporates each patient’s goals and desires to form a custom-tailored plan utilizing the latest plastic surgery techniques, while maintaining natural looking results.

Once the perfect plan is formed with Dr. Sato, the patient will visit with her patient care coordinator, Adrian, whose primary role is to ensure that the entire experience at My Houston Surgeons is a pleasant one. Adrian will go over the cost of the chosen procedure(s), outline various payment options including medical financing, and answer any other questions the patient may have about what happens next to move forward with surgery.

Cost and recovery

Breast Lift

Member Response:

The price of a breast lift depends on many factors, one being the city where you have the surgery. The cost of living varies from city to city, so in turn the price for elective plastic surgery varies also. There are other variables too. Do you just want a lift or do you want a lift with a breast implant. Unfortunately, insurance does not cover a cosmetic breast lift. Depending on your insurance policy they sometimes cover a breast reduction if you meet the requirements.

Tummy Tuck

Member Response:

First and foremost, every patient should be medically cleared for surgery that involves anesthesia. Healthy patients with no medical problems (all vitals within normal limits and labs are all normal with a hemoglobin or blood level high enough to sustain some loss with surgery) should be fine to undergo an elective plastic surgery that lasts several hours. Here in the US, the recommended safe time for anesthesia for elective surgery is 6.5-7h maximum. After this amount of the risk for complications rises, including DVT/PE, infection etc. Another concern with combining so many procedures is blood loss. You don't want to get a blood transfusion from blood loss from an elective surgery. The recovery will also be more difficult. That being said, yes it can be safe to do all of this in the right patient.

Liposuction

Member Response:

General surgery training does NOT include training on liposuction. This skill is specific to plastic surgery training. This means he or she did not get proper training/experience on how to do this procedure.

Liposuction

Member Response:

Amber- I think this is a case by case type of thing. Yes, if a parent provides consent then surgery is legal, but elective cosmetic surgery is a grey territory where some PS may not feel that permanent changes should be made at such a young age. I have operated on teenage girls in my practice several times, but again I take it case by case.

Fat Transfer Augmentation

Breast Augmentation

Member Response:

I perform fat transfer for a primary breast augmentation when the patient is only wanting ~1 cup size increase in size and a very natural shape. I also routinely fat graft the upper pole as part of a mastopexy if the patient does not want to be larger but desires a fuller upper pole or closer cleavage. I think like with most things we get better with time as we figure out what works better as far as harvest and survival.

Dr. Sato is the most amazing female surgeon! She is like talking to your best friend. She is personable and very friendly. She is compassionate about her job, and truly cares about her patients. I had lipo in my midsection, and I feel wonderful! She did an excellent job! I will be forever grateful for her and her staff. I would give her 10 stars if that was an option!
My OBGYN didn't close me properly and left me with this C-section scar and pouch...Dr. Sato changed my life!
Dr. Sato did an amazing job and I am so happy with my BBL! I'm at 6 weeks post op and I really liked how I was given the opportunity to view my before pictures and compare them to my body now at 6 weeks. I am so amazed with the transformation! I've always had a narrow athletic built from lifting weights with no success in ever achieving curves. I can confidently fill our a pair of jeans.
