What is the necessary amount of breast tissue for ins to aporive?

Breast Reduction

Member Response:

Thank you for your question and doing your homework with ASPS member surgeons. Insurance coverage for breast reduction will vary from plan to plan. It is very common for a company to request patient photographs as well as medical documentation of other treatments that have been tried prior to surgery such as weight loss, chiropractic treatments, or dermatology treatments for skin conditions associated with large breast size. Most insurance providers use the Schnurr scale that helps individualize the amount of breast tissue that must be removed to be covered. This scale accounts for different body size and proportions. It is always best to see a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area and together you can develop a treatment plan that is best suited to your individual proportions and insurance coverage. Best wishes on a great result and speedy recovery.

How safe and effective is blepharoplasty?

Eyelid Surgery

Member Response:

Thanks for your question and doing your homework with ASPS member surgeons. Upper blepharoplasty and lower blepharoplasty are two very different operations. The upper eyelid procedure is consistently safe and reproducible whereas the lower blepharoplasty poses more risks and is a more intricate procedure. In the hands of an experienced surgeon, lower lid blepharoplasty is safe and produces excellent results. In very mild cases, some laser treatments can be effective in resurfacing and tightening the lower lid skin. It is always best to see a board-certified ASPS member surgeon in your area to develop a treatment plan best suited to your individual needs. Your plan may involve surgery, lasers, injectable filler, or a combination of those modalities. Best wishes on a great result and speedy recovery.

Breast Reduction at 18

Breast Reduction

Member Response:

Hi Mattie! Thanks for your question and doing your homework with ASPS member surgeons. Having a breast reduction surgery during the teenage years can do wonders for your neck, back, and shoulders as well as improve your self-esteem and let you participate more fully in activities that may be limited by large breast size. It is important to remember that most young women do not reach full breast maturity until around 22 years of age. If you have a breast reduction at 17, you may experience more breast growth and an increase in size. Breast reduction is a very safe, consistent, and reproducible surgery that is a conerstone procedure of many plastic surgery practices. The surgery typically takes 2.5 - 3 hours and recovery to get back to common daily activities is about 2-3 weeks. It is generally 4-6 weeks until you are ready to engage in sports or more vigorous activities. As a young woman, your ability to breastfeed may be altered by having a breast reduction but still possible.

After gastric bypass surgery, you will loose a significant amount of weight. For the safest results, the ASPS recommends waiting at least 18 months after bariatric surgery before having body contouring surgery. This will allow time for your weight to stabilize, ensure that you have good nutrition, and monitor the resolution of any medical conditions. Most bariatric patients enjoy the results of their body contouring procedures so be sure to do your homework and select a board-certified plastic surgeon who is an ASPS member. Best wishes on a great result and speedy recovery.
