Ask a Surgeon
Dr. Troy Pittman participates in the ASPS Ask A Surgeon service. View responses to public questions below.
Can I go from a larger chest size to flat chested?
Breast ReductionMember Response:
Breast reduction is a tailor made operation. Most women can go significantly smaller. The most important thing is to keep the blood supply to your nipples. My recommendation is to see a board-certified plastic surgeon to discuss your options. I am located in Washington DC and would be happy to see you.
Dog bite chunk off lip
Skin rejuvenation and resurfacingMember Response:
My suggestion is that she have a scar revision on her lip. That thick scar tissue can be removed and the lip repaired in a meticulous fashion.
I want to have my nipples removed are doctors okay with it???
Cosmetic SurgeryMember Response:
Having your nipples completely removed is an extreme solution to an issue that may be solved more easily. Have you considered a nipple reduction or Botox to keep them from getting hard?
capsular contracture
Breast AugmentationMember Response:
Your surgeon should absolutely NOT use the same implant. The leading theory of capsular contracture is biofilm produced by bacteria. In theory, your pocket is contaminated. Removing the implant and reusing it will compromise the sterility of the pocket. Your implant warranty should cover the cost of the new implant anyway. I would suggest you ask your surgeon to use a new, sterile implant. If your warranty does not replace the implant, it’s well worth spending the money to get a new one.
life of implants/breastfeeding
Breast AugmentationMember Response:
The implants do not need replacing just because they are 10 years old.

Breast AugmentationMember Response:
In DC, breast augmentation ranges from 5500-9500 dollars depending on how complex the surgery is. The best thing to do is consult with a board-certified surgeon.
Is it safe to get breast implants, can they bust and harm you ?
Breast AugmentationMember Response:
These are common questions that I often get from women considering breast augmentation. The goal of the operation is to give you the enhancement that you are looking for with minimal downtime and no long term limitation in daily activities. I ask my patients to avoid swimming for 6 weeks. This is mostly because keeping the incisions dry allows them to heal better. You know how your fingertips get swollen and wrinkled in water? Your new incisions can also swell like that and prevent you from getting the best result. Overall, after 4-6weeks, you can return to normal activity with no limitations.
