Is plastic surgery part of your 2018 resolutions?

The new year is always a time for reflection and plans for self-improvement. It's also a great time to think about plastic surgery! I know, I know... what else would a plastic surgeon say? But really, there are some fantastic reasons for why now may be the time for that procedure you've been considering. Let's take a look at why.

Less sun

The new year is a time of less sunlight and cooler temperatures. Even in cooler climates, the spring and summer months expose our skin to more sun, which can be harmful after procedures like laser resurfacing and facial procedures like facelifts and blepharoplasty (eyelid lift). These darker months are a perfect time to get these procedures done!

Puffer jackets

Any surgical procedure requires recovery time. Our patients work hard to arrange busy work schedules and family life to find a few weeks to focus on their post-op recovery. It can be hard to prioritize yourself! However, procedures like a tummy tuck, breast augmentation, liposuction and buttock augmentation require months for the final results to settle in. Swelling can resolve over months; scars can take just as long to fade. Compression garments are more comfortable in the colder months and that puffy jacket of yours can help to hide your contour until the shape is just perfect. Think of the look you'll have in that new spring wardrobe!

Deals, deals, deals

A well-kept secret is that deals abound in those early months at many practices. Surgeons have often taken advantage of year-end deals to upgrade their technology, and January and February are perfect times to take advantage – especially for minimally invasive treatments like nonsurgical fat reduction and laser resurfacing.

I always tell my patients that they have to find the right time to consider any surgical procedure. It has to be the right time for your body, lifestyle and budget. For many of our great patients, the beginning of the year is the perfect time for renewal!
