Weddings and plastic surgery – a likely marriage

weddings and plastic surgery

Planning your wedding day is an extremely involved process – creating a guest list, reserving a location, choosing a caterer, picking the music, finding a hair and makeup specialist and hiring a photographer! The photographer... right! Pictures are critical to remembering your wedding day, with photos capturing you and your guests brought together to share in this very special occasion.

In considering all of the details associated with your wedding day, thoughts might drift toward plastic surgery. The bride and groom (and their families) may pursue what plastic surgery can offer to meet the special day with improved levels of confidence.

Here is a list of the typical procedures the bride and family will consider:

Skin care

Topical therapies including retinol and hydroquinone to brighten the skin are popular for wedding preparations, as well as peels, lasers, light therapies and facials to improve skin quality. If you're planning for a wedding, it takes several months to see improvement with skin care and about three weeks with the more active therapies available through a plastic surgeon.

Botox or Dysport

When preparing for a wedding, many patients focus on reducing wrinkles, particularly around the eyes. Injectables like Botox and Dysport temporarily reduce or eliminate facial lines and wrinkles by blocking the nerve signals to the targetted facial muscles.

Dermal fillers

To optimize the volume and lift of the face, dermal fillers are great for single-stage or multi-staged treatments. Fillers can help freshen and rejuvenate the face in a not "over the top" way.

Conventional application regions for fillers include the lower lid/tear trough region, cheeks, lips and creases between the nose and lip and around the mouth. Newer applications for fillers include straightening and improving proportions of the nose, lifting the brow, cheek and/or jawline and smoothing the area around the chin.

Facial surgeries

Eyelid surgery is one of the "first stop" facial procedures performed with quick recovery as the eyelid skin is the thinnest skin in the body. Refreshing the eyes can rejuvenate your overall appearance and vibe, with improved vigor and energy.

Facelift and neck lift procedures are often pursued by the mother of the bride and require at least six weeks of recovery. Mini lift procedures may be performed to elevate the brow or jawline, reducing jowls. Another common facial procedure for weddings is rhinoplasty.

Surgical procedures require time to recover and scars to fade, unlike injectables that provide quick results with minimal downtime and recovery.

Breast surgeries

An event like a wedding may make the dream of breast surgery more of a reality if the bride has been considering breast procedures for a while and feels the surgery will allow her to feel and look her best on her special day. Such procedures include lifts, augmentation and reduction.

Body surgeries

Liposuction is one of the more likely procedures to pursue, achieving quick contouring improvement in the arms, torso and legs. Bigger procedures like tummy tucks and body lifts have incredible results but require planning at least several months prior to surgery to allow full physical activity and scar maturation.

Preparations for weddings help make this incredibly special day more joyous. Plastic surgery is designed to amp up confidence levels and may provide another box to check off to make this special day even better. Be sure to find a board-certified plastic surgeon, as he or she is trained to provide any of these options and a more comprehensive level of treatment.
