What you need to know about breast augmentation revision

breast augmentation revision

Even with a comprehensive breast augmentation consultation and experienced surgeon, there are many factors that could cause your breast implants to deviate from your original expectations or appearance. These factors could be directly linked to the breast augmentation procedure itself, the condition of the breast implant or they could even be attributed to changes in the breast tissue (typically caused by pregnancy and breastfeeding).

What is breast augmentation revision?

This is why breast augmentation revision is an excellent choice for clients who want to restore their original appearance, change the size of the implant, or deal with any deformity issues. You may be an excellent candidate for breast augmentation revision based on the following factors:

  • You're experiencing implant deflation (i.e. loss of implant volume)
  • An X-ray has revealed a shell leak in your implant
  • You'd like to change the size or shape of your implant
  • Scar tissue is tightening around the breast area
  • Your implants have shifted from their original position
  • You've experienced weight gain or weight loss, and your breast tissue has changed as a result

If you've experienced any of the above, there's a good chance you can benefit from breast augmentation revision with a board-certified plastic surgeon.

The breast augmentation revision procedure

During the initial consultation, your plastic surgeon will examine your breasts to determine the current state of your implants. This may include X-rays to determine if any leaks or ruptures are the cause of misshapen implants. Be sure to be ready to discuss your medical history and your experience with your previous breast augmentation.

You may also need to discuss why you want to change the size of your implants, particularly if you're opting for larger implants. Finally, you may need to alert your plastic surgeon if you'd like to lose weight or become pregnant, as this can affect the outcome of your breast augmentation revision.

During the procedure, incisions will be placed depending on the changes you want to be made to your breasts. After the procedure, you will need to wear bandages around your chest for a few days, followed by a sports bra. It's important to take some time off for recovery, especially if you're undergoing considerable reconstructive surgery. Your breast shape should retain throughout the years, barring any considerable weight gain/loss or pregnancy.
