Your Consultation

New patient appointments are usually scheduled for afternoon hours Monday through Thursday, consistent with Dr. Parker's surgical schedule. The New Jersey plastic surgery consultation will provide an opportunity to explore your options and discuss your procedures in detail. The consultation also usually includes educational videotapes, a review of photographic examples of other patients' results and may include computer imaging.

We obtain color photographs of most patients before and after surgery. Preoperatively these photographs can be "imaged" or morphed in certain cases to give the patient a idea of what surgery might do. These images are not a guarantee of results, but intended to help you imagine the possibilities of plastic surgery. Imaging is particularly helpful for the following surgeries: rhinoplastyliposuctionfacelift, browlift , eyelid surgery.

Ask a Surgeon

Dr. Paul Parker participates in the ASPS Ask A Surgeon service. View responses to public questions below.

Am I a candidate for minimal scar arm lift?

Arm Lift

Member Response:

It's very hard to evaluate you without pictures or and in person examination. Best advice is to obtain a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon. They can examine you, then discuss options to try to improve the contour of your arms.

So Many Questions

Liposuction

Member Response:

Liposuction is a form of body contouring to improve shape and not a form of weight loss. Best advice is to obtain an evaluation by your pcp to determine why you are gaining and not able to lose weight.

Qualifications

Panniculectomy

Member Response:

With your weight loss issues and skin laxity you would appear to be a good candidate for a panniculectomy (removal of the hanging skin only) or a tummy tuck. Best advice is to obtain a consultation from a board certified plastic surgeon to be examined and evaluate your options.

Bumps and tightness

Facelift

Member Response:

What you describe is not uncommon following a face and neck lift. Be sure to follow up with your surgeon so they can evaluate you and help speed your recovery.

Reopening of “new” bellybutton 6 years after Abdominoplasty?

Mommy Makeover

Member Response:

What you describe warrants further investigation. It would be most helpful for you to return to the surgeon who operated on you. They can review their operative report and examine you. This may shed light on what is going on without having to undergo radiographic imaging studies.

Is there a loss of nipple sensation if you get implants?

Breast Augmentation

Member Response:

Permanent loss of nipple sensation after breast augmentation is unusual though temporary loss can occur. Once sensation returns to normal, you may resume all the same activities in which you engaged prior to surgery.

Dermal fillers/ with breast implants

Dermal Fillers

Member Response:

Dermal fillers would not make sense though fat grafting may be an option. This or putting in a larger implant to try to balance out the asymmetry are probably your best bets.

Combining BBL with BA?

Breast Augmentation

Member Response:

These procedures can be done at the same setting or staged. If they are done at the same time, you and your surgeon will need to arrange for some pillows and pads to help your positioning.

Brest augmentation

Rhinoplasty

Member Response:

Yes, these procedures can be done at the same operative setting to allow for one surgery, one anesthesia and one recovery.

Too old for breast reduction

Breast Reduction

Member Response:

At 64 you are not too old to have a breast reduction as long as you are in good health. I have performed a number of breast reductions on patients your age and older and they have done very well.

Garment

Mommy Makeover

Member Response:

There are many garments available. Discuss this with your surgeon and their team. They will educate you about garment wear and how to care for the drains.

Switching fat

Breast Lift

Member Response:

Given present technology, this is not possible. You can only use your own fat or perhaps that of an identical twin.

cranial bones growth/remodelling in adulthood and reshaping...

General Reconstruction

Member Response:

The cranial bones have fused by the time adulthood is reached. Therefore, remodeling of those bones in adulthood is not possible.

Are plastic surgeons comfortable with a straight up nipple removal??

General Reconstruction

Member Response:

This is doable from a technical standpoint. The first question the surgeon would ask during a consultation would be, "why do you want your nipple removed?" If the reason is valid, removal could be done.

Soft capsules

Breast Augmentation

Member Response:

A soft capsule means the lining which the body always forms around an implant is soft and pliable as opposed to hard and contracted. Soft capsules are preferred. Sounds as if your surgeon wants to see how you heal before committing to a revision.

Cost of proceedurre

Breast Augmentation

Member Response:

The cost of this and other procedures will depend on the specifics of the work being done, the location of the surgeon as well as their experience.

Breast Feeding after Breast Implants

Breast Augmentation

Member Response:

You should be able to breast feed babies when implants are inserted through an inframammary incision into a partial submuscular pocket. This should not affect you milk production or delivery of milk to your nipples.

Implant and scar revision

Breast Implant Revision

Member Response:

It is too early on in your course for revision--need to wait several months for the tissues to soften. Discuss your concerns with your surgeon at your next visit.

Breast lift during explant

Breast Lift

Member Response:

If a breast lift is indicated, we will often perform it at the same time as explantation. Best advice is a face to face consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon to be evaluated and discuss these options.

Dental Implants and Tummy Tuck

Tummy Tuck

Member Response:

I would agree with those other surgeons above who recommended that you not travel outside to another country for your surgery or your dental implants. The suggestion to look at dental schools and plastic surgery training programs to help reduce cost if money is an issue.
