Description of Fellowship: The Cleveland Clinic Department of Plastic Surgery Research Fellowship is a rigorous, comprehensive program designed to train future surgeon-scientists. Fellows gain experience in both basic science and clinical research, actively participating in development and execution of research projects, preparation and submission of IACUC and IRB protocols, grant writing and submissions and animal and human subjects research. In addition, fellows receive hands-on training in both basic and advanced microsurgery techniques, assist in organizing and teaching the microsurgery training course and contribute to multiple projects in the anatomy lab involving cadaveric dissection. The program's mission is to develop strong research skills, advance clinical and scientific knowledge and cultivate the next generation of leaders in plastic surgery within a supportive yet demanding academic environment. Outside of their core research responsibilities, fellows are expected to actively participate in weekly departmental conferences, lab meetings and monthly journal clubs, engage in national meetings and cadaveric workshops and utilize the department's microsurgery laboratory to refine operative and technical skills.
