Research Year

Though not required, some medical students may choose to do a research year. This optional step on the path to becoming a plastic surgery resident can be a great way to expand your knowledge and clinical experience while also connecting with others who can provide mentorship and guide you in your career.

  • Where to look for research opportunities:
    • Look on society websites for research opportunities (PSRC and ACEPS)
    • Check out the AOA Medical Honors Society, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the NIH Clinical Center for opportunities
    • Be aware of research opportunities within each institution
