ASPS Podcasts for the Global Spanish Speaking Community

The ASPS Spanish Podcasts series serves as an educational snack for plastic surgeons and specialty residents interested in current information on the latest trends and innovations in different areas of plastic surgery. The first episodes address cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery as well as body contouring.

Complete new seasons will drop roughly every other month. The guests for each episode of these podcasts are Spanish-speaking plastic surgeons who are opinion leaders in the specialty around the world. Note: These podcasts are not for Continuing Medical Education (CME) credit.

La serie de podcasts en español de ASPS sirve como un refrigerio educativo para cirujanos plásticos y residentes de especialidades interesados en información actualizada sobre las últimas tendencias e innovaciones en diferentes áreas de la cirugía plástica. Los primeros episodios abordan la cirugía de mamas cosmética y reconstructiva, así como el contorno corporal.

Las nuevas temporadas completas caerán aproximadamente cada dos meses. Horacio F. Mayer, MD (Host)

Horacio F. Mayer, MD, is the Interim Chief of the Department of Plastic Surgery of the Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires (affiliated to the University of Buenos Aires). He also holds an appointment as an Assistant Professor of the Post-Graduate Program in Plastic Surgery of the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UniRio) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and has served as a Visiting Professor for Harvard Medical School (Boston, MA, USA), Cleveland Clinic Florida (Weston, FL, USA), Duke University (Durham, NC, USA), the Campus Bio-Medico Universitá di Roma (Rome, Italia), Uppsala University (Uppsala, Sweden), Tata Memorial Center (Mumbai, India), the University of the Republic (UDELAR), Montevideo, Uruguay and the University of Chile (UCH), Santiago de Chile, Chile.

Dr. Mayer is Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Plastic Surgery and has authored eleven book chapters and over 40 scientific articles in a variety of distinguished plastic surgery books and journals including "Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery" (PRS), "Journal of Plastic Reconstructive Aesthetic Surgery" (JPRAS), "Aesthetic Surgery Journal" (ASJ), "Aesthetic Plastic Surgery" (APS), "European Journal of Plastic Surgery" (EJPS), "Scandinavian Journal of Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery" and "Journal of Reconstructive Microsurgery" (JRM).

Dr. Mayer is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and a member of the Argentine Society of Plastic Aesthetic Reconstructive Surgery (SACPER), the Ibero-Latin American Federation of Plastic Surgery (FILACP), the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), International Confederation of Plastic Surgery Societies (ICOPLAST) and the Ivo Pitanguy Alumni Association (AEXPI).

He has lectured in different countries of America, Europe, Asia and Africa including the USA, the UK, Germany, Belgium, Hungary, Italy, Lebanon, Monaco, Rumania, Sweden, South Korea, Egypt, India, Pakistan, Philippines, United Arabic Emirates, Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay. He is fluent in English, Portuguese and Spanish, his mother tongue.

Breast Reconstruction

This new episode of the ASPS Spanish Podcasts presents the current state and new trends in breast reconstruction. New technologies and techniques are addressed, such as the use of dermal matrices, the prepectoral technique in prosthetic reconstruction, the neurotization of free flaps and robotic surgery.

Participants are Dr. Oscar Manrique, plastic surgeon from the University of Rochester, NY, USA, and Dr. Andrés Mascaró, plastic surgeon from the Cleveland Clinic, Weston, Florida, USA, being the host Dr. Horacio F Mayer, Acting Chief of the Service of Plastic Surgery of the Italian Hospital of Buenos Aires (Argentina) and director of the Education Committee of the International Confederation of Plastic Surgery Societies ICOPLAST.

Oscar J. Manrique, MD, FACS (Guest Speaker)

Oscar J. Manrique, MD, FACS, is a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon and Fellow of The American College of Surgeons in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Rochester Medical Center, Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York.

He did his clinical training in General Surgery and Trauma/Surgical Critical Care at the Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School and Boston Medical Center/Boston University, followed by Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York and subsequently by Fellowships in Microsurgery/Lymphatic Surgery at the University of Southern-California in Los Angeles and China Medical University Hospital in Taiwan. Areas of interest: breast reconstruction, microsurgery, lymphedema surgery, gender affirming surgery and cancer/trauma reconstruction.

Has published over 120-peer review articles, more than a dozen of book chapters and serves as reviewer for several journals in Plastic Surgery.

Andres Mascaro, MD (Guest Speaker)

Andres Mascaro, MD, is a dual-boarded Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon in the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Cleveland Clinic Florida.

He completed his medical training at the University of Chile School Of Medicine. Upon completion he went on to complete a full general surgical residency and became board-certified in General Surgery. He then went on to complete his plastic surgery training at UMDNJ. Once he obtained his board certification in plastic surgery, he then completed advanced training in microvascular surgery at Yale University. He then became an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Loma Linda University. As an academic surgeon, he has authored many peer reviewed publications in medical journals as well as co-authored book chapters in plastic and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Mascaro also serves as Editor and reviewer for several leading plastic and reconstructive surgery journals.

Body Contour Surgery

This new episode of the ASPS Spanish Podcasts features new trends in body contouring plastic surgery. New techniques, controversial techniques, "tips and tricks" in established techniques and the use of new technologies for greater definition are addressed. Participants are Dr. Stefan Danila, plastic surgeon of the University Hospital of the University of Chile and German Clinic of Santiago de Chile and Dr. Carlos Roxo, plastic surgeon member of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery (SBCP), being the host Dr. Horacio F Mayer, Acting Head of the Plastic Surgery Service of the Italian Hospital of Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Director of the Education Committee of the International Confederation of Plastic Surgery Societies (ICOPLAST).

Dr. Roxo is a former Head of the Plastic and Reconstructive Service at Andarai Federal Hospital (2001-2020), a full member of the Brazilian Plastic Surgery Society and The Brazilian College of Surgeons and full member of FILACP. He is also a Life Member of ISAPS a Visiting Professor for 42 countries an Author of many original articles in plastic surgery and a father of 2 plastic surgeons.

Stefan Danila, MD (Guest Speaker)

Plastic surgeon, specialist in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. Teacher and active researcher at Universidad de Chile and Clinica Alemana.

Aesthetic Breast Plastic Surgery

This new episode of the ASPS Spanish Podcasts presents new trends in cosmetic breast plastic surgery. New devices and techniques such as new types of implants, controversial techniques, "tips and tricks" in established techniques and the problem of anaplastic giant cell lymphoma are addressed. Participants are Dr. Luis Perín, plastic surgeon member of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery (SBCP) and Dr. Manuel García Velazco, plastic surgeon member of the Mexican Association of Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery (AMCPER), being the host Dr. Horacio F Mayer, Acting Head of the Plastic Surgery Service of the Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Director of the Education Committee of the International Confederation of Plastic Surgery Societies (ICOPLAST).
