FEDERAL | ASPS Asks CMS to Delay Changes to the Physician Compare Website

Upcoming changes to the Physician Compare reporting program were recently unveiled by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). In response to their request for feedback, ASPS stressed that health literacy, even among the college educated, is low and that information leading consumers to draw faulty inferences about quality of care is not acceptable. Furthermore, ASPS asked that all data shared on the Physician Compare website be transparent, with clear explanations about any benchmarking process across specialties and/or all providers. The Society also asked the Agency to delay implementation of any new process until the public can be assured there are adequate measures across specialties and until any benchmarking method across all providers is standardized and shared publicly.
