New York governor suspends elective surgeries in hospitals where bed capacity is low

On Friday, Nov. 26, New York Governor Kathy Hochul issued an executive order suspending non-essential/elective surgery in hospitals where the associated hospital bed capacity is less than 10 percent. The Executive Order takes effect Dec. 3, and will be re-evaluated on Jan. 15, based on the latest COVID-19 data.

While Ambulatory Surgery Centers and Office-Based Facilities are not mentioned in the Executive Order, it is unclear how these entities might be impacted. ASPS members in New York are advised to check with their local institution(s) regarding current hospital bed capacity levels.
